Extech Agricultural Services was privileged to be invited by the Centre for Indigenous Knowledge and Organisational Development (CIKOD) to participate in an Agroecology Workshop and Caravan Tour for District Assembly Officials on Agroecology for Climate Adaptation, held at Geogio in Techiman, Bono East Region.
The event convened key representatives from the Techiman Municipality, Tain District, and Nkoranza-North District Assemblies, including Coordinating Directors, Presiding Members, Agricultural Directors, Planning and Budget Officers, Environmental Officers, District Finance Officers, and Agric Sub-Committee Chairpersons.
Participants gained valuable insights into agroecology as a sustainable climate adaptation and mitigation strategy—one that strengthens local food systems, enhances soil health, and promotes biodiversity. They also pledged their commitment to champion agroecology initiatives and integrate them into their respective assembly budgets and development plans.
While participants acknowledged the importance of agroecology, they also raised concerns about financing constraints, particularly the limited resources allocated to district agricultural departments under the current 5% administrative budget. Encouragingly, discussions highlighted ongoing efforts to review this policy framework to ensure agricultural departments receive adequate funding directly from their parent ministry.
Extech Agricultural Services remains committed to collaborating with CIKOD and other stakeholders to advocate for policy transformation, climate resilience, and sustainable farming systems that work for people and the planet.
